Course Summary

This is a demonstration in real time, over 2 videos, of my development of a painting of an old rusty saw in watercolour.

 You will observe from beginning to the very end how I create the rusty saw blade along with it's wooden handle. On this occasion you will see me develop the painting without any speeding up so you will get an idea of how quickly (or slowly) I paint. The two videos are just under 2 hours in total. You can download the reference image I am working from alongside a downloadable version of the drawing with the final painting.

This is manageable for those who have some knowledge of using watercolour and may give insight to those who are wanting to know how I create the Rust & wood shown in this painting. I have also included some information on how to square up, background information on my process and my studio colour palette list with a list of colours used in the Old Rusty Saw.

Course Curriculum

Angus McEwan

I am currently the President of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours (RSW). I taught in the further education sector for 24 years in Scotland, I exhibit Internationally and have won many awards over the years. I went to Art school at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (Dundee, Scotland) receiving a Degree and Post Graduate Degree in Fine Art. I also have a post graduate certificate in Secondary Education -PGCSE with merit. Over the past number of years I have also been teaching Watercolour Internationally; including, Russia, China, France, Portugal, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany and the United States. I taught a wide range of subjects in College using a multitude of materials and taught absolute beginners to degree level students, but my real passion is watercolour. I teach in-person workshops as well as online classes.
